In my last post I shared how I handle the overwhelm when thinking about the holidays (my super simple Organize at a Glance template + how I use it).

But what about the overwhelm that can’t be controlled by writing it down?

A few of my stress reducing go to’s include cutting out or at least diminishing what (or who) is stressing me out, fitting in fitness of some kind, and getting good sleep.

But here’s a relatively new one for me:

Losing yourself in something you love

I love yoga and wish I could get the same benefits at home as I do in class. (I’ve begged my amazing yoga instructor, Debbie, to do videos:)

Fortunately, I recently found something that I can do at home that puts me into an almost meditative state.

It’s funny because it actually stems from another obsession I’ve had for years -searching for my favorite shells.

While in the process of reorganizing my house (a complete overhaul that I do every few years) I realized how many shells I’d collected. And my kids were like – YOU are the one with all the clutter:/!

Tossing them was simply not an option, so I thought – I’ll make a frame with them.

I loved the finished product, but just as much I found that I loved the actual process of making it.

So I looked around for more things I could shell … anything I could get my hands on! (I have so many things now that I’m actually selling a few! For more info: click here.)

This was also when I began listening to what’s been like magic in my life – so it was like the perfect combo. All of that (mind) clutter that stresses me out vanishes, at least for the time being.

One of my first creations: for enquires on purchase / custom pieces, see end of post.

This creative outlet has become my go to for getting centered, having an almost immediate affect by clearing the clutter in my head and creating space for good stuff to come in.

TAKE ACTION:

What makes you lose yourself? If you don’t have a go to, look for one. Think back to when you were little … art, music, walking through the woods. Or… what are you drawn to now when you scroll though Instagram or a bookstore.

As the holidays quickly approach, I’m just wondering how I can pack shelling supplies into the suitcase. My yoga mat is probably an easier option. And I’ll have my less healthy – but festively fun alternative – wine:)

Wishing you a beautiful start to the holiday season!

xoxo,
