This makeover cost $11 and took less than 11 minutes!

And while the results aren’t life changing (some organizing makeovers are by the way), I now get quite a thrill when reaching for a dishtowel or utensil. (Yes, I’m easily thrillable.)

However, even my 15-year old who’s like my little private chef said last night, “Wow I just love this!” And as you may know it’s not easy to impress a teenager!

If you missed this on my Instagram story last week, here’s a recap:

Please note! If you’re not familiar with creating IG stories, you only have 15 seconds per clip so it’s a little choppy!

A few tips I wanted to add when it comes to organizing. BONUS: you can apply to life in general:

1. Be flexible.

When the divider didn’t fit, I came up with an alternative use that was even better: TWO drawers organized vs. just the one.

2. Don’t be fooled by perfection, but have fun with inspiration.

I’m an organizer by profession and share lots of beautiful images on my Instagram feed, but my own house isn’t magazine worthy as some may assume. (Well it’s not yet at least! I do love gorgeous homes and have dreams of designing my own one day:)

But I’m not waiting for that time to come to create surroundings that make me happy. I love making my home and workspace look, work and feel better. (And lovvvvve helping my clients do this!)

Lots of little changes – over time – add up to BIG results.

3. Maintenance required

Just like your car, yard, hair (the list goes on…), when you organize there’s typically some kind of maintenance required to keep it looking and working good.

This drawer is a good example. It had gotten super cluttered a few years back so I took out seldom used items and store them separately.

Later, I pulled out the larger utensils (they kept catching when I’d open or shut the drawer – ugg!) and placed on counter in a utensil holder (see at end of video). I got flexible (#1!) by using a garden pot I found TJ Maxx. Loved the look AND the $6 price!

Special XOXO Dedication

I’m wrapping up this post with a special dedication to my parents – who’s house is magazine worthy. They just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary! Plus, my mom’s birthday is today and my dad’s is next week!

Dad and Mom, you both mean the world to Emily and me. We are beyond blessed to have such kind, loving, supportive parents. Love you so very much!

As I shared with them, if I meet, fall in love and marry the guy of my dreams in 2019, I too can celebrate my 50th anniversary. When I’m 98!  Crazier things have happened. Right?! I’ll keep you posted:)

xoxo,
